Background Information

I am a fourth year graduate student at the University of Maryland working in the Center for Addiction, Personality, and Emotion Research (CAPER). I received my B.A. from The George Washington University in 2001. After graduating I received a two year research fellowship at the National Institutes of Mental Health where I worked in the Section of Developmental Genetic Epidemiology under the direction of Dr. Kathleen Merikangas. I spent my first two and half years at the University of Maryland working with Dr. Deborah Beidel and Dr. Samuel Turner at the Maryland Center for Anxiety Disorders assisting in a treatment outcome study for adult social phobia before moving over to CAPER in January of 2006.

Research Interests

Although I spent my first two and a half years of graduate school studying anxiety disorders, my current research focus is primarily in the area of smoking. In particular, I am currently collecting data for my dissertation examining the role of distress tolerance as a predictor of smoking cessation outcome. I am also involved in a treatment-outcome study looking at the efficacy of behavioral activation as a treatment for depressed smokers.
